After living in Sydney and Europe for 30 years June Reith returned to her home state and after a few years purchased the old billabong tearooms...
June Reith brought the Billabong in January of 2004 after it had been on the market for 14 months and was very run down and in need of a whole lot more than TLC, she set about a massive renovation program both inside and outside. June, who is also in Real Estate thought that this time she had brought herself a lemon, the garden was all but dead and inside the restaurant nothing worked! She had planned on a grand opening for Valentines night and had only three weeks to get everything into gear for that occasion. Now under the new name of Amirage Restaurant & B&B and after an incredible amount of work, creating a very romantic ambience. It was to be a great success with patrons dining under a silk canopy watching the setting sun with a fountain creating its own rainbows over the lake, the peacocks and birds a plenty and of course a delicious meal.
June was inspired to buy the restaurant because she had previously had a restaurant in Spain and in Sydney and was the first chef for the 5 star hotel in Sydney the Regent quite frankly she just wanted a good cup of coffee!!!
There have been several very successful functions since that exciting opening. They include Weddings and Christmas celebrations, nothing is too big or too small, and June’s aim is to make her guests have a happy comfortable and memorable occasion. According too one regular guest (6th generation Gingin cattle farmer) June serves “the best, juiciest, grain fed, marbleized, melts in the mouth beef steak you will ever taste”. Now if that’s not recommendation I don’t know what is?
June current charity is the Angel Flight Network, however she also organised the generous and talented Gingin ladies to knit for the children of Mongolia along with Sunrise Channel 7 during 2006 she held morning teas the first Wednesday of the month and will do it all again in 2007 for UNICEF, another worthwhile charity as the first was so successful.
Amirage is now looking spectacular. Since those first hasty initial renovations in 2004 June has renewed practically everything, the garden is looking wonderful with its new rose gardens fountains and pond and the place is lit up like Kings Park to make what was once a dark corner practically shines. Also obtained Liquor and Water licenses B&B and a 6 seater spa for her guest to enjoy.
The Garden Party Cocktails planned for the 24th Feb is a way of celebrating all the improvements and to thank all the loyal patrons who supported it and have dinned during the last 2 years!.
